Private Utility Locating in Oklahoma

GPRS’ private utility locating services are meant to give your excavation team a detailed picture of what utility lines lie beneath the surface of your job site. To ensure the overall timely success of the job, utility detection is critical to any construction project where subsurface excavation is planned. If ignored, budget overruns multiply, your schedule turns chaotic and there’s risk of injuries taking place on your job site. The standard is one-call (811) utility locating, a state-sponsored public service that is required for every project. However, the scope of this service is limited to areas that only serve the public’s interest.

To achieve the complete success you're looking for, you’ll want to connect with an expert private service provider like GPRS.

Subsurface Private Utility Locating Services: A Necessary Step Before You Dig

The first step before starting any project involving digging is to call the national “call before you dig” number, 811. 811 will take your information, including the exact location of your project, then contact local utility companies that may have subsurface infrastructure in that area. The utility companies themselves will send a representative out to mark those lines.

The potential problem lies in the fact that the utility companies mark where they know their lines to be, rather than scanning to see what’s underground. As such, they will not be able to provide any information on private utilities that may be under the surface in your project location. This is where a private utility locating company near you can help.

What Happens if I Don’t Locate Private Utilities?: Injuries, Delays, and Budget Overruns

It's never a good idea to go into a subsurface excavation project without a clear and comprehensive understanding of what to expect when you break ground. Most line strikes occur due to a lack of proper ground disturbance policies and dig permits or failure to locate all underground utilities, such as water, storm, sewer, and electric lines before beginning. Locating gas lines, water lines, underground storage tanks, cables, and more is crucial to the safety of your crew. Line strikes have a wide range of potential consequences, from severe injuries to costly project delays. Damage prevention and safety should always be the top priority on a dig site.
