Gas & Water Line - Game & Fish

Ground Penetrating Radar used to locate underground gas and water lines in remote and rural, Northern Arizona.

Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, LLC. of Arizona was contacted by the local Game and Fish Department of Arizona to locate a network of multiple underground water and gas utility lines. There were several unique challenges to this job. The site was remotely operated in Northern Arizona on a bison ranch covering hundreds of remote acres. This site was also over 100 years old with several undocumented construction projects. Therefore, there was the potential of many abandoned and unknown yet active utilities present. It was of high importance to locate all utilities in the area of a new service building that was to be built the next week. Avoiding any damage and disturbance to the existing water line was essential the continuous operation of the ranch as disrupting any utilities could be detrimental as well as very difficult and costly to fix due to the highly remote location.

Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, LLC. arrived on site within short notice. GPRS specializes in urban and remote / rural utility locating services. GPRS used both ground penetrating radar and radio detection / signal induction technologies to locate the water and gas utility lines and marked their presence on site in real time. GPRS' quick response and clear markings communicated the all locations and paths of gas and water utilities and prevented any damage to the underground lines from taking place. This enabled the general contractor to continue safely excavate with confidence without losing costly time for labor, while eliminating costly repairs by avoiding gas and water line breakages.

Ground Penetrating Radar mapping is a great tool to scan areas of post tension cables, rebar, and conduits, including PVC pipes. Ground Penetrating Radar can also be used to locate underground utilities such as water, gas, electrical, communication, sewer, and other objects prior to digging or excavating.
